Romantic, Soulmate #WeddingVows

I wrote these romantic wedding vows for young, beautiful soulmates (as they characterized themselves). The Groom was better at articulating the Bride’s rapid, excited flow of ideas than the Bride herself, they told me. Their first date was a hike up a mountain where they simultaneously saw a shooting star while lying on a blanket. They’d also met some opposition in their courtship from a group of friends.

Celebrant (to Groom):

Before God and your family and friends as witnesses….
Do you promise to be a rock of comfort to <Name> all the days of your life?
To lift her up and be her strength?
To show her compassion by letting her be responsible for her own beliefs and thoughts?
Do you promise to be the interpreter of her thoughts and dreams?
Will you share in all her gladness as well as difficulty?
Will you give her a life that is thought-provoking, spirit-stirring, and passionate?
Will you love her every day, every hour, every moment…
feeling yourself blessed to be a part of each other?
Will you commit to her purely, faithfully, and ardently?
Do you promise to make <Name> your life and your happiness above all others?
Doing your utmost to honor a love that is very rare?

Groom: I do

Celebrant (to Bride):

Before God and your family and friends as witnesses…
Do you promise to love <Name> deeply and tenderly all the days of your life?
That he will be to you as your second self?
His the only heart you crave? Your soul a refuge for his?
Will you cherish every moment together with glad grace, in joy and in difficulty?
And will you strive to be his best earthly companion and One True Love?
Will you love him every day, every hour, every moment…
feeling yourself blessed to be a part of each other?
Will you commit to him purely, faithfully, and ardently?
Do you promise to make <Name> your life and your happiness above all others?
Doing your utmost to honor a love that is very rare?

Bride: I Do
